Chicken Wine Pairing
Chicken is the most versatile animal protein globally, and it’s consumed in every corner of the earth. With its mild taste and soft texture, chicken can become a wide range of dishes, from creamy casseroles to crispy grilled meat.
Chicken’s mild flavours can be overwhelmed by the bold flavours in red wine, so pairing it with white wine is customary. Chicken dishes can be pretty oily or creamy as well, so they might prove too much for the gentler, more delicate white wines.
That leaves us with the medium-bodied white wine range. Any dry white wine that’s not too fragrant or subtle will prove to be the ideal partner for every chicken meal. Some examples include white Bordeaux, Rhône whites, Burgundy and Alsatian wine.
The cooking method and the sauce might give the chicken a bolder personality, so roasted chicken or chicken with a sticky teriyaki sauce will prove worthy of light-bodied red wines like Pinot Noir.
Just like no one says no to a chicken dinner, it’s hard to find a white wine that doesn’t complement the bird’s flavours. Explore our selection of French wine for chicken below.
